Water, Water, Everywhere

Putting global water reserves into perspective.

This image shows the size of a bubble of water approximately equal to all of the water on Earth relative to the size of the Earth itself (US Geological Survey website). The smaller bubble represents all fresh, liquid water on Earth, most of which comes from groundwater stocks currently unavailable to humans.

The minute bubble represents fresh water in lakes and rivers accessible to critters living on the Earth's surface.

Kind of makes me want to have shorter showers.
